How to download Flash (.swf) files with Google Chrome

You all know that all modern websites today have flash files embedded on their pages. Some use flash as a part of their website design and some use them for showing advertisements. But now I’m pointing on flash games directory websites which are very popular.

So if you try to save one of these games in your computer you will not be able to do that (see the picture above). But now I’m going to show you a small trick on how to download .swf flash files in your computer. In this case I’m going to demonstrate this trick in Google Chrome, but you can apply the same steps in Firefox.

1. Open the website where is embedded the flash file you want to download. In my case I decided to download a flash game from Y8.com.

2. Right click anywhere outside from the flash embedded file and click on View page source.

3. Now you are at the Source of the page where is embedded the .swf flash file that you want to download. Press CTRL+F and the FIND text box will appear in the top right of the Google Chrome. Type .swf at the textbox in order to find the URL of the flash file, in my case the URL of the flash game.

Google Chrome instantly will find the URL where the flash file is located. Right click on it and select Save link as… which will save you flash file in your computer.

Now you flash file is downloaded. Hope you found helpful this quick trick.

this doesn’t work for me at all. think it may be cos the link to the swf file is coded differently, in that, there is no proper url link to the file…

Nicely put REEGON and the images makes it easier to understand.
Anyone got stuck with some of the flash files that doesn’t work is because some flash files and flash games that you download requires additional scripts in the background to make it functioning. You have to either find and download the scripts and place it in the same or the exact folder position with the flash to get the file to working.
Secondly, some flash files are embed in an iFrame within the webpage, thats why REEGON instruction is not able to see the file. The only way to find this file is using your right-mouse click on the actual iFrame, but not directly on the flash, then follow the options and steps from REEGON. Then you can find the file.

There are also other ways to download flash files and flash games. Check it here: http://www.webbee.com.au/index.php/learn-share

    Cheers!
