How to Embed SWF Flash Files in Blogger Blogs

Blogger, as one of the most popular free blogging platforms that offers a quite professional service. Blogger is the platform that revolutionized the blogging and took it to another level. Today there are a lots of advanced premium blogging platforms which offer a very professional way of blogging, but Blogger still remains to be one of the best choices. I started my blogging journey in Blogger, 5 years ago and still I find it interesting and I admit that I’m thinking to create a Blogger blog in the near future. I remember, years ago I didn’t know how to embed flash files on my Blogger blogs and that was a common issue among the bloggers so in this article I’m going to show you all the steps you have to take in order to place a SWF flash file anywhere in your Blogger blog.

I assume that you have already designed your flash file. The first thing you have to do is upload the flash file in a web space and get the direct link. Starting from the fact that Blogger does not host flash files, you will need to host it somewhere else. There are some websites that offer flash file hosting, but most of them don’t give you the direct link for the SWF flash file.

How to host your SWF Flash Animations using Google Sites?

In my opinion the best place where you can host your flash files is Google Sites. All you need to do is login to Google Sites with your Google Account (if you don’t have, sign up to get it) and create a Google Site by clicking on the Create button.

Give a name to your site, which will be assigned also in your Google Site URL, type the required verification code and click Create.

After this, your Google Site will be created instantly. From the menu on the top, click on the More button and select Manage site.

In the menu placed on the left click on Attachments. Here is the place where you can upload files that you will need for your Google Site. So in order to upload your flash file, click on the Upload button.

The upload popup button will appear in front. Just locate the SWF flash file and click the Upload button.

Your Flash file will be uploaded within a minute and will appear at your attachment section. To get the direct link of your SFW Flash file, click the View link.

Your SWF Flash file will be opened in a new window and you will be able to get the original direct link. But you have to be a little careful here. Go to the URL bar of your browser and highlight the part of the link which starts from http:// and ends with .swf. If your didn’t understand me, then see the URL of the Flash file I uploaded. To get the real direct link of the Flash file just copy the highlighted part.

In order to embed the Flash animation in your Blogger blog, you will need the following code:

<embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="PASTE THE URL HERE" pluginspage="
http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" height="400" width="400"></embed>

Replace the PASTE THE URL HERE with the direct link of your SWF Flash file that you copied earlier. After that just copy the whole code and paste it on your Blogger sidebar or other places.

If you have faced any problem while placing your Flash Animation on Blogger, feel free to use the comment form below and let us know about it.

Hi, thanks for this post. This was great help, but I couldn’t get the part where you said “copy the whole code and paste it on your Blogger sidebar or other places…”

I guess I go to Dashboard > Design > Page Elements > Add a Gadget > Add your own, but pasting the html code wouldn’t work there. If I need to do something at Design > Edit HTML > Edit Template, that’ll be too complicating for me…

Will appreciate your help with this…

      Hi ss268!

      Im sorry about the problem.

The code I provided here works fine, I’ve tested it. So the problem might have been caused by the URL of your FLASH file. You have to be careful when you take it from Google Sites. Copy only the part that I described in the post and paste it into the src=”PASTE THE URL HERE” part of the code.

If you still have problems, let us know about it. Give us the link of your flash file and we will try to provide you with a new working code in order to embed it in your Blogger blog.

      Take care, Reegon

    Greetings!
A wonderful and easy to understand article. I didn’t tried but I am sure that it will work. My file has a bit large size, so I hope that i can change the numbers from 400 to somethign else. I also want to add scrolling in it just in case if that size was not enough for my file. Is it possible to enable scrolling?

I hope I will get reply when you reply:)

    Hi there,
    Thank You for this explanation.
I have a question. Though it worked perfectly i came across one problem. If i log out of google sites my flash on my website doesn’t work anymore. If i sign in again it does. Do You have any idea what i can do about this issue. I made such a nice swf file and i would love to use it :o )

    Thanks in advance!! Happy Holidays.

DropBox has this feature, and it is easy to use this in blogger by simply copying the direct URl of flash. but they disabled this feature for the accounts created after october 2012. (Mine was created before that date. :p)..
Megaswf also supports swf hosting and direct link can also get, but dont whether it works in blogger or not.
