One thing all of us techies have in common is that we spend an inordinate amount of time sitting at a computer. Add to that the time we spend with our head down, either texting or using our iPads and mobile devices, so a great majority of us have developed terrible posture.
I recently found a product that was developed to help combat “Facebook Posture” and “Text Neck.” It’s called PostureNOW, and it’s a stupidly simple posture brace, but it actually works.
Basically, it’s a band that goes across your back and reminds you to keep your shoulders back. You put it on like you would a coat, there are adjustable neoprene armbands that go on your upper biceps. And you can wear it over or under your clothes.
It requires some adjustment at first; they recommend that when you’re standing or sitting in correct posture there should be little or no tension across your back. And then, when you inevitably hunch forward, the tension reminds you to pull your shoulders back and straighten up. Voila!
At first I was skeptical, because the device is so simple, like why didn’t I think of that myself? But the first day I wore it for about a half hour in the morning and for the rest of the day, my awareness of my posture was heightened and I was keeping myself straighter.
After two weeks of use, I’m completely sold on this thing. My posture is improved, when I’ve got it on and when I’m not wearing it.
So do yourself a favor: If you spend your days at a computer, you probably need this. It’s $39.95 and you can get it at www.posturenow.com.
And like they say on their website, “Stop slouching!”

It’s funny, I bought a PostureNOW posture brace about a year ago because I was having severe neck pain. Like you said, the thing is simple and I was skeptical too, but it works.
